8 WEEK MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP

MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION

Only when our mind is open and receptive can learning, vision and change be produced.  Jon Kabat-Zinn

The 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course invites us to cultivate the capacity to be present on a moment-to-moment basis. As one develops a way of relating to daily challenges in a non-judgmental manner, the experience of clarity, well-being and inner peace is enhanced.

The sessions meet once a week for two-and-a-half hours with a six-hour retreat between classes six and seven. The practiced techniques include meditation, breath-focused concentration, mindful walking and eating, as well as other practices. Through these carefully structured techniques, the program guides the participants in exploring moment-to-moment life experiences in a conscious and compassionate manner. In addition, the course explores the manner in which we relate to stressful situations (i.e., anxiety, pain, insomnia, fear, anger) and how Mindfulness offers new ways of responding that can lead to self-discovery, personal development and health.

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program was created by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Since its inception, there has been great interest in MBSR and it has grown enormously on an international level. Currently, it is implemented in a complementary manner with medical treatment in many hospitals and clinics throughout the world

This course is for individuals who wish to improve their quality of life and manage daily stress and challenges that are part of our shared humanity in a kind and positive way.
